Why prices differ between countries, what a quote includes and how to pay safely.
Why does the same treatment cost far less abroad?
Mostly local costs: salaries, rent, liability insurance and drug prices. The materials (implants, prostheses, lenses) are often the same international brands. A lower price does not mean worse care, but an abnormally low one deserves questions.
What should a proper quote include?
The consultation, tests, surgeon and anaesthetist fees, operating theatre, materials and implants with brand and model, hospital nights, medication, follow-up visits and what happens if there is a complication. In writing, dated and with the currency stated.
Which costs are usually left out?
Flights, accommodation, transfers, meals, extra nights if recovery takes longer, medication once home, compression garments and follow-up at home. Budget an extra 20-30 % on top of the treatment price as a buffer.
Are the prices shown on medviajes final?
No. They are indicative ranges to compare destinations, not binding offers. The real price depends on your case, the materials chosen and the exchange rate, and only the clinic can confirm it after seeing you or reviewing your tests.
How do I pay a foreign clinic safely?
Always pay into the company's bank account, never a personal one, and ask for an invoice with the clinic's legal name. A credit card gives more protection than a transfer. Be wary of anyone asking for crypto, Western Union or cash in hand.
Is an upfront deposit normal?
Yes, a 10-30 % deposit to hold the theatre slot and date is common. Paying the full amount before your first in-person consultation is not. Ask in writing when the deposit is refundable.
Can I finance the treatment?
Some clinics offer instalments and several countries have medical loans. Always compare the APR with your own bank: clinic financing is rarely the cheapest option. medviajes does not offer or arrange financing.
Do I get my money back if I cancel?
It depends on each clinic's contract. Typically you get a full refund with 15-30 days' notice, a partial one with less, and nothing for a no-show. Ask for the cancellation policy in writing before paying and keep the email.
How do I spot a bait price?
Typical signs: a fixed price without reviewing your case, 'all inclusive' with no breakdown, discounts expiring in hours, and quotes that grow once you arrive. Ask for an itemised quote in writing and compare it with two other clinics in the same country.
