Androgenetic alopecia: treatments and destinations
FUE and DHI, graft survival and real prices in Turkey, India and Spain.
Androgenetic alopecia is the most common form of hair loss and stems from the follicle's genetic sensitivity to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It affects both men and women in different patterns, and it progresses gradually, so timing and hairline design matter as much as the technique itself.
Surgical treatment relies on follicular unit extraction (FUE) or direct hair implantation (DHI). Both relocate healthy follicles from the occipital donor area to miniaturised zones. In accredited centres, graft viability and survival exceeds 90%. Final results become visible between months nine and twelve.
The main contraindications are insufficient donor density and active autoimmune disease. Post-operative risks are usually mild: folliculitis, temporary forehead swelling or transient numbness. Many patients also need medical maintenance therapy to protect native hair, which is worth clarifying before travelling.
On destinations, Turkey dominates the global market by volume, with all-inclusive packages between EUR 1,500 and 3,500 and stays of three to five days. India offers very low-cost alternatives from EUR 1,000 with highly experienced surgeons. Spain is the premium European option above EUR 4,000 for patients who prefer to stay inside the Schengen area and value close follow-up.
At medviajes we compare accredited clinics, verify who actually performs the extraction, and organise the entire trip: treatment, flights, accommodation and follow-up visits. Any plan should be confirmed with a qualified physician who assesses your individual case.
